Pay attention to the following three points when assembling the cross shaft universal joint:
(1) After the parts are washed and dried in clean wash oil, check again the journal, bearing, oil seal, thrust washer (some cars do not have this washer) and other parts of the surface of the cross shaft. There should not be any defect.
(2) When installing the cross shaft into the universal joint fork, pay attention to the side with the grease nipple on the cross shaft facing the drive shaft so that grease can be added during maintenance.
(3) If there is a thrust washer, the washer should be placed between the inner end surface of the bearing seat and the end surface of the cross shaft head. After the bearing cap fastening bolts are tightened, the universal joint fork should be able to rotate freely on the cross shaft. There is stuck phenomenon, and the cross shaft is not allowed to have the feeling of axial clearance. If there is an axial gap, a thrust washer of appropriate thickness can be installed on the two symmetrical journal end faces, or a thicker thrust washer can be used, but the thickness of the gaskets on both sides should be equal to maintain the drive shaft. balance.
